Free Fishing - Welsh Region - South East Area

There very little free fishing known to us in this area

The Afon Llwyd (River Clwyd) at Cwmbran, Newport Gwent, below the boating lake down to the road bridge opposite Burtons Biscuits and approx. 100 yards further is believed to be unclaimed / unknown ownership / free.

From Grid: 330767 MAP to 330797 MAP

EA Rod Licence only required. No local angling clubs, Torfaen Bourough Council or any known individuals lay claim to this little stretch. The Environmental agency are also unaware of any ownership claim.

We are informed that local anglers that fish this stretch have tried really hard to discover any reparian rights claimants - "as no one want the bailiffs bothering them."

Free fishing fo brown trout and eel but also the odd / rare salmon.

Directions: Find the boating lake in Croesycieliog, Cwmbran, park up in the car park and take the wooded path back behind you and away from the boating lake path and simply follow the river until you see a good swim.
We are told that the best spot is directly under the road bridge where the river hairpins towards Llantarnam Abbey.

Below the above mentioned 100 yard stretch is Llantarnam Abbey (the Sisters of Joseph) and I suppose one could write / phone them asking permission to fish there as well as there are a number of nice spots there.
